JOB DESCRIPTION

Role and Responsibilities

The Teacher is a part of the after school youth program team.  They provide a supportive and developmentally challenging classroom environment for youth with and without special educational needs. 

 Conduct evaluations and assessments;

 Part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) in developing an enrolled child’s developmentally appropriate 

Individualized Education Plan (IEP);

 Consult and collaborate with parents, team members, school faculty, community, work sites and other 

school/funding agencies, as appropriate.

 Supervise children at all times, ensuring that health and safety needs are met consistently, as guided by best practices, and the policies and procedures of Philadelphia HUNE, Inc.;

 Develop and implement daily curriculum and weekly lesson plans;

 Prepare educational materials to implement daily activities;

 Integrate each child’s IEP goals and objectives into after school routines and activities;

 Maintain and evaluate students through progress monitoring (classroom observations, data collection, curriculum and portfolio assessment);

 Foster self-concept, personality, character, emotional, social, physical and intellectual development of each child, as well as independence;

 Maintain rapport and communication with parents, on a regular basis using a variety of modalities, including communication logs and progress reports;

 Participate in regular staff meetings and annual parent conferences;

 Keep informed of current memoranda by checking individual mailbox, posted memos/newsletters and staff/child information board;

 Maintain current best practice standards in youth education and transition through participation in conferences, workshops, reading related journals and literature;

 Maintain confidentiality at all times;

 Adhere to work schedule as directed;

 Represent Philadelphia HUNE, Inc. in professional dress, manner and appearance; 
                                      
 Exhibit an ability to handle conflict in a calm, appropriate, and professional manner;

 Work collaboratively with Youth Program Team;

 Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

B.A./B.S. in the Science of Teaching

Certified Teacher 

Preferably a minimum of two (2) years’ experience working with children/youth with Special Educational Needs
AND
Working knowledge of web-based data entry applications

Working ability in Microsoft Applications: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus, but not mandatory
