JOB DESCRIPTION

Role and Responsibilities:



The Youth Mentor is a part of the after school youth program team. They provide a leadership and a supportive environment for youth with and without special educational needs.

• Conducts interviews with team of youth program candidates;

• Participate in youth’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP);

• Works closely with the Program Manager, other Youth Mentor, Volunteers and Interns;

• Supervise children at all times, ensuring that health and safety needs are met consistently, as guided by best practices, and the policies and procedures of Philadelphia HUNE, Inc.;

• Assists in the implementation of daily curriculum and weekly lesson plans;

• Utilizes best practices techniques when working with youth;

• Considers each child’s IEP goals and objectives in the after school routines and activities;

• Foster self-concept, personality, character, emotional, social, physical and intellectual development of each child, as well as independence;

• Upkeeps PIXs and other data collection and reporting requirements of HUNE;

• Provides daily feedback to team for external and internal communication needs;

• Participate in regular staff meetings and conferences, as appropriate;

• Keep informed of current memoranda by checking individual mailbox, posted memos/newsletters and staff/child information board;

• Maintain current best practice standards in youth education and transition through participation in conferences, workshops, reading related journals and literature;

• Maintain confidentiality at all times;

• Adhere to work schedule as directed;

• Represent Philadelphia HUNE, Inc. in professional dress, manner and appearance;

• Exhibit an ability to handle conflict in a calm, appropriate, and professional manner;

• Work collaboratively with Youth Program Team;

• Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

High School Diploma or equivalent, and two years working with youth;

AND Working knowledge of web-based data entry applications Working ability in Microsoft Applications: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel Knowledgeable of community and team player Must provide child abuse clearance, FBI clearance and Criminal Background Checks

Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus, but not mandatory
